Jivamukti yoga is an intellectually stimulating and vigorous physical practice.
The sanskrit term āsana is often translated as poses or postures. Jivamukti yoga adopts the traditional meaning of āsana - seat, connection - emphasising that the physical practice is a means of refining our connection to the earth and all beings. Students begin to see that the physical practice is not separate from daily life or spiritual study but instead, part of a unified conscious practice. Jivamukti yoga classes incorporate study of yogic scriptures, chanting, meditation and music offering students a holistic spiritual practice.
Jivamukti Yoga is a path to enlightenment through compassion for all beings and was founded by Sharon Gannon and David Life on the Lower East Side, New York City in 1984.
